As the power is generated, it is sent out as a current. The current is sent through transformers to increase the voltage and push the power long distances. The bulk movement of this electrical energy from the generating station to an electrical substation is known as transmission. These high-voltage transmission lines stretch across the country and are what carry the power to a substation.
