One of the first steps in the process of planning a new grain bin should be a call to CCECA. Our team is familiar with Iowa's electrical clearance regulations for grain bins, and can help provide a safe environment for everyone working and living around the bins.
According to the Iowa Electric Safety Code, an electric utility may refuse to provide electric service to any grain bin built near an existing electric line when the bin does not provide the clearance required by The American National Standards Institute's National Electrical Safety Code.
Iowa has specified different standards for bins filled by portable and permanent augers, conveyors, and elevators.
These drawings identify the specific clearances required for both scenarios.
If you have any questions concerning clearance regulations, please call CCECA at 800-821-4879.
