Before electricity is available at the flip of a switch, it must be generated and travel great distances to reach you. All the poles and wires you see along the roadways and in front of your house are called the electrical transmission and distribution system. Generating stations all across the country are connected to one another through the electrical system or “grid.” We encourage you to take a journey with us this month as we follow the path electricity travels before it’s used to power your home, life, or business. As we move through this series, try to think about how many power plants in the U.S send electricity to the grid. We’ll have the answer at the end.
